UltraPower Programming Tips

Workhorse/Chevrolet 1996-2005 7.4L-8.1L

On 2003+ the fuse number 21 must be removed to disable the digital cluster.

The fuse box is generally located to the left of the steering column. Possible locations depending on body builder: under the dash, under lift-up dash, removable lid on top of or left side of dash.

Plug in the Programmer to both the OBD2 and PC. To ensure a good connection you can test it by opening the WinFLASH program, click on “Tools” then choose “Vehicle Information”. The calibration screen will come up and list the VIN and Calibration ID’s. The first cal id is what the program will be “built” on. You need to check that id against what is most currently available from GM. If you are capable of performing a SPS update using a Tech2 or MasterTech it is a good idea to do that before you “read” and send us your file. If you aren’t able to upgrade we can still perform the programming, it just won’t have the latest updates from GM.

Once you have finished the SPS update, start the engine and let it run for a few seconds. If it runs rough, it needs to relearn the crank position. Shut off and start again, accelerate rapidly to the floor and release, let it stabilize and shut off.

Plug in the programmer to the OBD2 connector and the PC. Run connection test, if ok go back to “Tools” and choose “Read”. A “Save As” screen will pop up, we recommend that you save in “Desktop” and use a file name that is easy to find like “smith’03-8.1L”.

Create an email To: tech@brazelsrv.com. Attach the file you just read and send along with any special requests such as speedometer correction, fuel octane, electric cooling fan on/off temps, etc.

You will be sent a file that will be labeled “smith’03-8.1Lupdate1”, drag file to desktop.

Run the connection test and than choose “Program”, find the file on your desktop and open. A last minute warning screen will appear. After you’re satisfied that all the precautions have been followed, press “ok”

A VIN screen will appear you will say “ok” and then the programming will begin. It normally takes about 5 minutes to do this. When it’s done it will let you know, turn the key off for 10 seconds and then start engine. As long as you don’t get an error message, there is no way the program won’t “take”.

Duramax Diesel 6.6L 2001-2005
The procedure is the same for the Duramax except for the fuses that need to be pulled. Open the hood and access the fuse box. Remove the “IPC/DIC”, SEO IGN”, “Radio”, “INFO”, this will disable any communications with the PCM during
programming.
